{"id":2769,"date":"2022-03-01T14:55:19","date_gmt":"2022-03-01T12:55:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/?p=2769"},"modified":"2022-03-01T14:55:19","modified_gmt":"2022-03-01T12:55:19","slug":"combating-of-rape-amendment-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/index.php\/2022\/03\/01\/combating-of-rape-amendment-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"Combating of Rape Amendment Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Combating of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/projects\/grap\/Pdf\/Rape_Amendment_Bill_2022.pdf\">Rape Amendment Bill 2022<\/a><\/strong> was tabled in Parliament by the Minister of Justice on 22 February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>This Bill fine-tunes and strengthens the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/laws\/annoSTAT\/Combating%20of%20Rape%20Act%208%20of%202000.pdf\">Combating of Rape Act<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>GR&amp;AP assisted in the development of Namibia\u2019s progressive rape legislation, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/laws\/annoSTAT\/Combating%20of%20Rape%20Act%208%20of%202000.pdf\"><strong>Combating of Rape Act 8 of 2000<\/strong><\/a><strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>which came into force in 2000. We further mobilised civil society to promote amendments to the bill initially proposed by the government, most of which incorporated into the final version of the law. Most of this work done can be viewed on our webpage <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/index.php\/projects\/rape\/\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the basis of our extensive research\u00a0 Namibia\u2019s statutory Law Reform and Development Commission proposed amendments to the Act to refine it. These amendments cumulated\u00a0 into the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/projects\/grap\/Pdf\/Rape_Amendment_Bill_2022.pdf\">Combating of Rape Amendment Bill 2022<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0which was tabled in Parliament by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.observer24.com.na\/justice-minister-yvonne-dausab-this-afternoon-tabled-the-rape-amendment-bill\/\">Minister of Justice<\/a> on 22 February 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Combating of Rape Amendment Bill 2022 was tabled in Parliament by the Minister of Justice on 22 February 2022.
