The multi-functional team is comprised of people with extensive knowledge in the law, education, research and advocacy. Together the work towards creating and maintaining a human rights culture in Namibia.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Trustees<\/h2>\n<p>The Trustees of the Legal Assistance Trust (LAT) oversee the work of the Legal Assistance Centre. Most of the trustees have served on the LAT for several years.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"style22\"><strong>Clement Daniels\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; Chairperson of the Legal Assistance Trust<br \/>\nMr. Daniels served as the director from 2000 until May 2004 when he stepped down as director. He was immediately appointed as Trustee to the Board of the Legal Assistance Trust in May 2004. He joined the organization in 1988 as a paralegal and in 1991 temporarily left the LAC to complete his post-graduate studies at the University of Western Cape. He returned to the LAC in 1993 for his articles and was admitted as a legal practitioner in 1996. He focused primarily on human rights and labour cases while practicing at the LAC. Due to his interest in management and his leadership skills he was appointed as Director of the LAC with effect from 1 January 2000. After Clement stepped down as the director of the LAC, he opened his own law firm specializing in labour law.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style22\"><strong>Norman Tjombe<\/strong>\u00a0-Legal Practitioner<br \/>\nMr Tjombe served as a Director from July 2004\u00a0 to February 2010.<br \/>\nBefore then, Norman was the Coordinator and lawyer for the LAC&#8217;s Land, Environment and Development Project (LEAD).\u00a0 He studied law at the University of the Western Cape with an LAC Scholarship, and used to work as a student volunteer at the LAC during university holidays. He completed his law studies in November 1996 when he graduated with B.Juris and LL.B degrees. He immediately started working at the LAC as a candidate lawyer and was admitted as a lawyer in 1999.<br \/>\nThis position he held until February 2010 after which he started working in private practice.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style22\"><strong>Toni Hancox<\/strong>\u00a0-Ex-officio Trustee<br \/>\nMrs Toni Hancox was appointed the Co-ordinator of the Human Rights and Constitutional Unit in August 2000 after she worked in private practice and for the government attorneys while qualifying as a legal practitioner via correspondence studies.\u00a0 Toni is also admitted as a solicitor in England and is a qualified conveyancer.\u00a0 In March 2010, Toni was appointed as the Director of the Legal Assistance Centre.\u00a0 She also served on the Council of the Law Society in Namibia, as well as a Commissioner on the Law Reform and Development Commission and was a trustee for Nangof, the umbrella body for non-governmental organizations in Namibia.\u00a0 Recently she obtained her Masters Degree in Human Rights through UNISA.<\/li>\n<li class=\"style22\"><strong>Taamba Iithete<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; MD of BlackTurnkey Development and Project Managers<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gladice Pickering<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Director<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-931\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/toni-221x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"256\" \/><\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"mailto:thancox@lac.org.na\">Toni Hancox<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Director (image)<br \/>\nText above[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1105 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/lead-corinna-1-197x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"176\" height=\"268\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Co-ordinator LEAD<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:cvanwyk@lac.org.na\"><strong>Corinna van Wyk<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<b><strong>Co-ordinator, Land, Environment &amp; Development Project<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/b>Corinna holds an LLB from the University of Namibia and was admitted as a legal practitioner in 2007.\u00a0 She started at the LAC in 2010 as the project lawyer for the Aids Law Unit and became the Project Lawyer and Project Coordinator for the Social Justice Project in 2014 until 2019.<br \/>\nIn January 2020 she took over as the coordinator of LEAD.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Land, Environment and Development Project<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"mailto:gkapere@lac.org.na\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1101 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/lead_grace-212x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"179\" height=\"253\" \/>Grace Kapere<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Paralegal, Screening Officer<br \/>\n<\/strong>Grace Kapere worked as the Project assistant for the Gender Research and Advocacy project of the LAC for 5 years where after she took a year break to attend to family matters.<br \/>\nShe returned to the Legal Assistance Centre in January 2018 as the official paralegal at the Centre. Ben assists LEAD in various projects related to San land rights, Conservancies and national policy.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Social Justice Project<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<strong><a href=\"mailto:cbrandt@lac.org.na\">Chloe Brandt<\/a><a href=\"mailto:utjaveondja@lac.org.na\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3465 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/lead-chloe-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"183\" height=\"234\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nJunior Legal Practitioner and Researcher<br \/>\n<\/strong>Chloe holds an LLB degree from Rhodes University and an MBA, specializing in HR management. She was recognised as one of the top 100 most employable graduates in South Africa by \u201cABSA Gradstar\u201d in 2020, and she is a member of the Golden Key International Honorary Society for her excellent academic merit. Chloe is passionate about social justice and the empowerment of young people through mentorship and shared wisdom.<br \/>\nShe joined the Land, Environment &amp; Development Project (LEAD) during March 2023 and has been admitted to the High Court of Namibia in June 2023.<br \/>\nFrom October 2024 she moved into the Social Justice Project taking cases to court.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Gender, Research and Advocacy Project<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong><a href=\"mailto:yengelbrecht@lac.org.na\">Yolande Engelbrecht<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/images\/yolande.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"197\" align=\"left\" \/><br \/>\nCo-ordinator, Paralegal<\/strong><br \/>\nYolande joined GR&amp;AP at the beginning of 2009, having worked at the Ministry of Justice for a number of years. Yolande takes the main responsibility for running workshops on behalf of the department as well as developing training programmes and providing information to clients. She has been promoted in October 2023 as Co-ordinator of GRAP.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<strong><a href=\"mailto:cengelbrecht@lac.org.na\">Celine Engelbrecht<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/images\/celine.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"156\" height=\"194\" align=\"right\" \/>Project Assistant<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Celine started at the LAC in February 2018 as a voluntary intern. She has since advanced to Project Assistant at GR&amp;AP. Celine holds a degree in Linguistic Studies, a Higher Certificate in Paralegal Studies and is currently doing her LLB degree.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>Perri Caplan<\/strong><br \/>\nLayout and design consultant[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2>Administration<\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p class=\"style22\"><strong><a href=\"mailto:vkavure@lac.org.na\">Vasisee Kuvare<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Finance Manager<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1245 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lac.org.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/Vasi-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"152\" height=\"203\" \/><br \/>\nVasisee joined the LAC in August 2009 after having being a programme manager for BEN Namibia.
